New China-Myanmar Railway Route Launched in Chongqing

The first China-Myanmar (Chongqing-Lincang-Myanmar ) international freight train departed on May 23, from Chongqing Guoyuan Port in southwest China to Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar.

The freight train, carrying 60 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of productions, will pass through southwest China's Yunnan province and arrive in Mandalay in 15 days.

The 2000-kilometer route integrates road and rail transportation and enables a new path connecting southwest China and ASEAN countries. Outbound freight from Chongqing and its neighboring regions can reach the Indian Ocean via outlet to the sea at Myanmar, and further access to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South Asian countries.

Zhang Jun, chairman of the South Asia Future Group said the group has been investing in Myanmar for nearly 30 years, and the new route will save 20 days of transportation and cut 20% of the logistics cost for the group.

According toQiDan, general manager of Yuxinou (Chongqing) Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., efforts are being made to enable regular operation of the new route, which is expected to provide multiple choices for international freight transportation between China and South Asian countries.
