People's Well-Being: A Heartwarming Goal on the Road to Common Prosperity

In the magnificent development of the times, attaching importance to people's livelihood and continuously improving people's well-being have always been the key direction for national development. China has always insisted on allowing the people to share the fruits of economic development and social progress. Since the Party's 18th National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at the core has adhered to the people-centered philosophy and put people's livelihood on the top of its agenda. A series of achievements show that the living standards of the Chinese people have improved in an all-round way, and the country is taking solid steps towards common prosperity.

Achieving common prosperity is a basic requirement of socialism and an important feature of the Chinese path to modernization. The common prosperity that we pursue, both material and cultural, is for all of our people; it is not for a small minority, nor does it imply an absolute equality in income distribution that takes no account of contribution.

In 2024, the nationwide per capita disposable income was 41,314 yuan, an increase of 5.3% over the previous year, and a real increase of 5.1% after deducting price factors;

The nationwide median per capita disposable income was 34,707 yuan, up by 5.1% year-on-year; 

The ratio of per capita disposable income between urban and rural residents was 2.34, dropping by 0.05 from the previous year;

The per capita monthly income of migrant workers nationwide was 4,961 yuan, an increase of 3.8% over the previous year;

The per capita disposable income of rural residents in counties that were recently lifted out of poverty was 17,522 yuan, an increase of 6.9% over the previous year, and a real increase of 6.5% after deducting price factors;

The nationwide per capita expenditure was 28,227 yuan, an increase of 5.3% over the previous year, and a real increase of 5.1% after deducting price factors; 

The per capita expenditure on services was 13,016 yuan, an increase of 7.4% over the previous year, accounting for 46.1% of the total per capita spending;

China's overall Engel coefficient stayed at 29.8%, which was 28.8% is in urban areas and 32.3% in rural areas.
