Sichuan has been reputed as “the land of abundance” since ancient times. The preferential geographical and economic conditions have made Sichuan one of the earliest regions in China’s economic development and a prosperous place in the country. The long-term affluence has made the people of Sichuan enjoy a comfortable and easygoing life. However, this has not slowed down the development paces of Sichuan’s high-tech industries, and a large number of high-tech enterprises have thrived here, continuously injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of Sichuan and pushing the governance and prosperity of the province in the new era to a new level.
The only national laboratory of western China started construction in Sichuan in 2023, with its main buildings completed in the same year.
Two new national key laboratories were approved.
13 national key laboratories and 30 provincial key laboratories completed reorganization.
The first batch of four Tianfu laboratories were put into operation.
The National Sichuan-Tibet Railway Technology Innovation Center was completed and put into use.
The National High-end Aviation Equipment Technology Innovation Center and the National Advanced Technology Achievement Transformation Center of Western China were inaugurated and put into operation.
The second phase of the Meridian Project was cited as one of the top 10 domestic science and technology news events in 2023.
The new generation of artificial sun, “China Circulation No. 3”, was listed among the top 10 super projects.

Construction of three national strategic emerging industrial clusters and three national advanced manufacturing clusters was accelerated.
The National Supercomputing Center in Chengdu was approved to build the first batch of national new-generation AI public computing open innovation platforms.
Chengdu successfully held the 2023 World Science Fiction Convention, becoming the first city in China and the second in Asia to host the event.
The construction of the Belt and Road scientific and technological innovation cooperation zone commenced.
Sichuan and Chongqing jointly held the first Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange in Chongqing.
