Leadership Insights | Xi's Stories: Jiangxi-New Practices of Local Governments in the New Era

Freeing the mind and forging ahead to make up for weaknesses, consolidate the foundation and seek innovation

Throughout history, Jiangxi has taken agricultural civilization as the cornerstone and fostered the brilliant Ganpo culture, which has become a symbol of the province’s “abundant natural resources and outstanding people”. Entering the modern era, Jiangxi continues to keep up with the pace of the times and actively promote industrial transformation and upgrading, with an aim to achieve high-quality development. At the same time, the province adheres to the concept of green development, promotes low-carbon development, and strives to build a model of green development, so as to make lucid waters and lush mountains the defining features of Jiangxi.

In 2023, Jiangxi continued to improve its air, water and soil quality. 

The average concentration of PM2.5 was 29 µg/m³, and the ratio of days with good air quality was 96.5% in the province.

The proportion of good water quality in the national assessment section was 97%, and the main streams of the Yangtze and Ganjiang rivers both maintained Class II water quality. 

Jiangxi issued China’s first provincial-level standard for the forest chief system.

The Ministry of Natural Resources set up a technological innovation center for land and space ecological protection and restoration in major lake basins in Jiangxi. 

Jiangxi took the lead in the country to explore the overall allocation of natural resource assets and complete relevant trading. 

The areas of artificial afforestation (regeneration) and degraded forest restoration completed 126.8% and 113.7% of the province’s yearly plan, respectively

Jiangxi has fully implemented the “1+N” policy for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.

The installed capacity of renewable energy power generation projects in the province accounted for more than 50% of the total. 

Jiangxi has established a total of 28 national ecological civilization construction demonstration zones. 

It has also set up 10 practice and innovation bases for implementing the concept that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, ranking among the top in the country.

In the future, Jiangxi will continue to focus on new requirements such as high-quality development, green development, and low-carbon development, and embrace the world with a more open mind. By deepening reform and expanding opening up, the province will continue to enhance its competitiveness and influence, and make contributions to promoting Chinese modernization.
