On February 26, 2024, the new Yinxu Museum was officially opened. As early as March 7, 2011, when meeting Henan delegates to the fourth session of the 11th National People’s Congress, Xi Jinping said that he was eager to visit the Yinxu Ruins in Anyang, central China’s Henan Province, to trace the origins of the Chinese nation.

On October 28, 2022, during his inspection tour of the Yinxu Ruins, President Xi said, “I have wanted to visit here for so long. I come here thirsty for a deeper understanding of Chinese civilization so that we can make the past serve the present and draw inspirations for better building modern Chinese civilization.”

Yinxu is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization. There have been unearthed tens of thousands of precious cultural relics including bronze, jade, pottery and bone objects as well as oracle bone inscriptions. Known as the source of ancient Chinese scripts, the famous oracle bone inscriptions provide crucial clues for today’s people to interpret the history and culture of ancient China.

Yinxu is not only a treasure trove of ancient Chinese civilization, but also a shared cultural legacy of all humanity. Its unique historical position and cultural value attract numerous tourists and scholars from around the world. Through studying the ancient ruins, we can not only have a deeper glimpse of the brilliant achievements of ancient Chinese civilization, but also gain a better understanding of the diversity and commonality of world civilizations.

Xi pointed out that Chinese culture originated at Yinxu, and a visit here is better than reading history books. With a long and continuous history, Chinese civilization shaped our great nation, and this nation will continue to be great, Xi added. It is necessary to better inherit fine traditional culture through unearthing, studying and protecting cultural relics.

With profound historical and cultural connotations, Yinxu is an important carrier for us to inherit and carry forward excellent traditional Chinese culture. We should cherish this precious cultural heritage, achieve the eternality of its cultural value through inheritance and protection efforts, and ensure the precious gem of Chinese civilization shines more brilliantly in the new era.
