Mountain Xuedou is located in the northwest of Xikou Town of Fenghua District in Zhejiang Ningbo. It is the highest peak of the Siming Mountain branch with an altitude of 800 meters. It has the reputation of "Penglai Island on the sea, Tiantai on the earth".

Mountain Xuedou was named "famous dream mountain" because of Emperor Renzong of North Song Dynasty Zhao Zhen visiting here in his dream. The Emperor Lizong of North Song Dynasty Zhao Yun call it "famous dream mountain" additionally. It is famous for its beautiful natural scenery and its iconic scenic spots include Qianzhang Rock, Xuedou Temple, San Yin Tam, Xuefu Rock, Miaogao Tower and the world's highest statue of copper sitting maitreya. The Xuedou Temple which is located in the heart of Mountain Xuedou was built in the Jin Dynasty, developed in the Tang dynasty and was the most prosperous in the Song Dynasty. It has a history of more than 1,700 years. For thousands of years, there was a great deal of incense and the monks. It was the fundamental field of maitreya. Zhejiang Mountain Xuedou and Shanxi Mountain Wutai, Zhejiang Mountain Putuo, Sichuan Mountain E-mei, Anhui Mountain Jiuhua are the five famous buddhist mountains.

Mountain Xuedou national scenic spot is located in the northwest of Fenghua District of Ningbo, zhejiang province. It covers an area of 85.3 square kilometers with a scenic area of 54.8 square kilometers and a perimeter protection area of 30.5 square kilometers. The scenic spot is centered on the ancient Xuedou Temple and Qianzhang Rock Waterfall and surrounded  all around with Wulei Peak, Suoluo Peak and Dongcui peak in the east. There Iis Mountain Pingfeng in the west.There are Tianma and Green mountains in the south. There are Trunk Peak, Stalagmites Peak and Ru peak in the southwest. There is a vast plain in the middle with crisscrosses, pleasant climate and beautiful scenery.There are Qianzhang Rock Waterfall, Miaogao Tower, Xufu Rock Cliffs, Shangliang Hillock Forest Sea,San Yin Tam Waterfall and other landscapes.

Over a-million-year evolution of the nature has made the Mountain Xuedou deep and rich with a lot of wildlife resources. According to historical records, there were "no people during the day but many tigers in the forest" in the Yuan Dynasty. During the Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, the deer were still seen. In the early 1950s, there were still clouded leopards. There are more than 1600 species of wild animals and more than 20 species of national level 1 and secondary protection animals.

Mountain Xuedou has been listed as national forest park and its plant category is also very diverse. It has more than 1500 species of 180 wild plants and it is one of the areas with the most abundant wild plant resources in eastern Zhejiang. The rare plants such as the national primary protection plant Duzhong, the national level 3 protection plant Zhejiang Nan, the Fovea Hopu, the green sandalwood and so on still has still been seen piecemeal in the Mountain Xuedou. 

From the first eruption of a volcanic eruption of Mountain Xuedou of Fenghua Xikou about 145 million years ago, the Mountain Xuedou has experienced other three volcanic eruptions and four sea dives in the next 10 million years. Nature was very magic, the typical Danxia landform of Shangyin Tam,Zhongyin Tam and Xufu Rock on the Mountain Xuedou and odd arteries of Xuedou Mountain from Xikou to Jiangkou were shaped. The flow of rock formations can still be seen in Qianzhang Rock and Xiayin Tam. After more than 100 million years, Mountain Xuedou entered the Epoch Times, the generation began to show the sight of dense forest, various animals, towering cliffs and waterfalls.
