磨心山位於岱山島東南部，距縣城高亭鎮2.2千米，三面環山，一面臨海。

　　磨心山上有一奇景“白峰積雪”，因海島性氣候，經常晨霧暮藹繚繞，隆冬時節，有時島上偶有降雪，待雪停後，別處很快會又顯青綠，唯磨心山上銀裝素裹，這樣就在東南海島，雪不多見的地方形成了這一奇景。慈雲極樂寺是佛教凈土宗建築群。佔地面積18000多平方米，建築面積8000多平方米，牌坊的匾上寫著“蓬萊仙島”四個字，是趙樸初先生的手書。寺院嚴格按照江南禪院的建築風格建造。山門進去，左側是放生池，二進為天王殿，三進為羅漢殿，再往上是主殿“三聖殿”，兩側配有鐘鼓樓、僧寮房，主殿後為藏經樓，再往上是舊庵及方丈院。

　　磨心山左主建築為“仙芝茶莊”，山右主建築為“玉佛寶塔”，其間再配以亭子、碑林等建築小品，整個建築顯得莊重、嚴謹又不失典雅。寺內一排圍墻上共鑲嵌了十一塊黑色大理石，組成了一堵碑墻，每塊碑上的字，都為陰雕，然後涂上真金粉，最後用生漆在石面上涂上三層，因此，這碑雖然經多年風吹雨打，還是能在陽光下熠熠生輝。詩碑的內容是“蓬萊十景詩”。岱山自古稱蓬萊仙島，早在清朝已形成“十景”，不少文人墨客曾為之賦詩題留，這兒是選取了清末文人劉夢蘭寫的十景詩，分別是：“蒲門曉日”、“石壁殘照”、“南浦歸帆”、“竹峙怒濤”、“白峰積雪”、“鹿欄晴沙”、“石橋春漲”、“橫街魚市”、“漁山蜃樓”、“衢港漁火”。

　　磨心山一説為岱山島形如石磨，而這磨心山正處島的中間，而且是全島最高的山，因此稱作磨心山。還有另一種説法，説是這座山原來很高，如能登得頂峰，就能摸到天上的星星，於是就叫“摩星嶺”。
