東沙鎮位於岱山島西北端，北瀕岱衢洋，東鄰岱東鎮，南與高亭、岱西兩鎮接壤。最大海灣由西沙角、念母岙、沙河口自西而東環列，至山渚頭岬角形成半圈狀。鎮區坐落于大海灣東角--史稱"東沙角"，鎮由此得名。境內有東墾山、大寨子山、小寨子山等島嶼。總面積23.46平方公里。地勢南高北低，氣候冬暖夏涼。

　　東沙歷史悠長，文化積澱厚重。據考證早在四千年前就有人類在東沙角繁衍生息，2200多年前秦始皇遣徐福率3000童男童女尋找長生不老之藥，看到岱山島嶼縹緲朦朧，猶如仙境，遂登臨尋仙，登臨之處為東沙山咀頭，建於清光緒年間的“海天一覽亭”中有碑文記載。

More than 2,200 years ago, emperor Qin Shihuang dispatched Xu Fu to search for the elixir of life and saw Daishan island ethereal hazy, like fairyland. So he came to see the immortal, and the landing site is the head of Dongsha Shan. In Qing dynasty, the inscription of the "pavilion of the sea sky" was recorded in the inscription.

　　百年古鎮東沙角，雖然已淡去了昔日的繁華。但濃郁古樸的漁家風土人情依然吸引著外來遊客，讓人們駐足留戀。今天的東沙，越來越重視古鎮文化價值，對古鎮進行了妥善的保護，並有序地推進開發，相繼建成修復了中國海洋漁業博物館、中國書雕城、聚泰祥布莊、香乾老作坊、陶吧藝術館、漁都古鎮“老字號”一條街等項目。
