桃花島位於舟山本島沈家門漁港的南面，面積43平方公里。其中南部的對峙山為舟山群島的最高峰，山上有一聖岩寺，建於海拔482米處的一個天然石洞之內，至今已有400多年的歷史了。相傳當年安期生學道煉丹於此洞之內。“嘗以醉，墨灑于山石上，遂成桃花紋”，島名由此而來。
