CNCAO NEWS The previous experience of winning might render next success to be more easier, which is known as "winner effect". What is the deciding effect of the "winner effect"? Now the research group of Hu Hailan in Qiushi Academy for Advanced Studies ande Center for Neuroscience, Zhejiang University ( ZJU ), has uncovered a little of this mystery.
On July 14 Beijing Time, one of the top journals, Science, published the research article written by Hu Hailan's team and partners online in the way of long text. The researchers initially identified the dynamic control of prefrontal cortex ( PFC ) towards social competition and firstly discovered the neural circuit of "winner effect" in mammals' brains, a loop in the dorsal projection of the dorsal raphe to the frontal cortex, through ingenious experimental designs.
They found that if enhancing the neural activities in certain area of medial prefrontal cortex ( MPFC ) of the mice, it would help them to beat competitors that were in higher level before in social competition and to achieve "counterattack". And when such counterattacks reached to a certain level after repeated accumulation, the increased level of mice would become steady, which could show the "winner effect".
Experts stated that this research achievement provided thinking of treatment for studying diseases which were relevant to social behaviors as well as offering theoretical evidence for the training strategy of improving players' performances in competition.
