Chonqingbei Railway Station transformation completed and put into use on January 20

The reporter learned that Chonqingbei Railway Station has recently completed its transformation and has been in operation since January 20, 2021. The upgraded Chonqingbei Railway Station completes the interconnection of the north and south squares, realizing zero-distance transfer between railway, rail transit and bus. Access to Chonqingbei Railway Station from either side of the North or South Square

Chonqingbei Railway Station, located in Chongqing Liangjiang New Area, was opened on October 22, 2006 and mainly handles passenger trains of Chongqing - Huaihua, Chongqing - Wanzhou, Shanghai - Chengdu, Lanzhou - Chongqing, Xiangyang - Chongqing and Chengdu – Chongqing High Speed.

The upgrade has optimized Chonqingbei Railway Station South Square and municipal transportation, enhanced the hub function in both ground and underground of Chonqingbei Railway Station“North Square + elevated station building and underground city corridor + South Square”, and realized the zero distance transfer of railway, rail transit and bus.

Li Xi, Assistant Engineer, Chongqing Railway Station told the reporter that in short, passengers will be able to enter Chonqingbei Railway Station from either side of the South or North Square, and after arriving at the Station, they will also be able to interconnect between the South and North Squares via the underground city corridor, and then seamlessly connect with various modes of transport such as rail, rail transit and bus, with zero distance transfer.

Zero-distance transfer of railway, rail transit and bus

It is introduced that the transformation has added an underground transfer hall underneath the railway’s south station building, realizing the integration of railway and urban public transport. The transfer hall is seamlessly connected to the rail transit exits of Line 3, Line 10 and Line 4. Passengers arriving by rail transit can enter the railway waiting hall of the south station building directly through the underground transfer hall, without having to transfer in the ground, which greatly facilitates passengers.

“After the upgrade, the railway and rail transit security checks are combined as one, so that passengers who transfer to the rail transit after arriving do not need to undergo repeated security checks, which improves the efficiency and convenient experience of passengers.” Li Xi said that the Station is also equipped with an airport waiting room, enabling multimodal transport of aviation and railway. The airport waiting room is located in the railway station and is expected to be opened after the 2021 Spring Festival, which will then provide passengers with a more convenient, comfortable and high-quality transit travel service for multimodal transport.
