《On the Border》：獻給“水門事件”
這是“老鷹”樂隊第一首節奏藍調加放克曲風的作品，在當時甚至就連作為鼓手的Don Henley自己，都對樂隊能玩出這樣的作品而感到很驚異。而且這也是Glenn Frey第一次在一首作品裏，如此純粹的運用節奏藍調演奏技術。
而這首歌曲的歌詞靈感，則來自於當年引起世界轟動的“水門事件”。此事件是當權的政府對位於水門大廈的民主黨競選總部進行竊聽的一段歷史，在位的總統尼克森，雖然事前並不知道此事，但在知曉此事後卻竭力掩蓋實情，阻礙司法調查，還在大眾面前公開撒謊，東窗事發後，尼克森也因此成為美國歷史上第一位被迫辭職的總統。整個世界也徹底瓦解了美國民眾對政府的信賴和依賴，從而引發公權力和個人隱私之間尺度的思考。而《On the Border》正是“老鷹”的思考成果。
