The exhibition “Go! Yunnan rice noodles” Curate by Mao Xuhui and Amy Y.Li –Young Yunnan artists’ group exhibition will be grandly launched on September 5, 2010, at Dialogue Space gallery. Some thirty works by eight young artists will be displayed. As these eight artists were all born and all grew up in Yunnan, this exhibition embodies a specific region cultural logic, and at the same times examines how artists of the eighties onward have coped with the new reality of materialism in their creations.

In the eighties, the southwest artists group stood out of the ranks, and changed the painting pattern of Yunnan, and even of China. And in this very exhibition the viewers will see the rarely seen purity of these young artists, their works show a sprouting original art, ripe with the most direct expression of human sensibility and imagination. The grew up freely, and like Yunnan vegetation, the are deeply rooted in that piece of land, and each one of them expresses in his own particular way his intimate relationship with Nature, and his own perceptions of life.

Li Xianting once compared Chinese contemporary art situation on the international scene as that of “spring rolls” on a cold platter. Today, many years later, these young artists hailing from Yunnan hint at a direction: art must always be sincere and artists must always heed the call of their heart. If you grow up in Yunnan, if all of Yunnan culture flows in your veins, just allow it be seen in your works, just let the beautiful nature feeling flow truly in your paintings. Just like people always keep an after-taste of Yunnan, just like Yunnan’s famous “across the bridge” noodles, even if their beautiful legend is ancient, the noodles are with us, generations after generations, and we can still taste them.

Let’s not talk about being “spring rolls” or not, for a time, let’s just be naturally and freely a bowl of “across the bridge rice noodles”, alright?
