“兩塊東西”是指“物品”——設計品，“東西兩塊”是指“地區”——德國、中國。“兩塊東西，東西兩塊”將介紹來自德國的十位青年設計師的時裝設計、産品設計、空間設計。其中明星品牌BLESS在當前的歐洲堪稱最具藝術前衛先鋒性，兩位設計師特別來京親臨展覽開幕。上世紀九十年代東西德合併後，新德國以其巨大的包容性與文化多樣性不斷豐富著自身，任何一種文化形態或者觀念在德國都可以迅速找到自己的位置。這次展覽所介紹的設計師與他們的設計作品正是這段“豐富時期”的一組抽樣。他們的作品不僅是對既有設計體系的“挑釁”，在另一方面設計師們也希望通過這些“挑釁”式的作品，對大家早已熟知的“生活狀態”進行一些可能的“擾動”。同時此次群展力圖打破人們對於“展覽”這一概念的傳統認知和對於德國設計品的固有成見，展現在氣質上更加自由和開放的新德國設計作品，使“設計品”成長為一個長期的、對大眾生活有影響力的實體，並以此創造德國設計師産品進入中國市場的機會。

Das Wort 東西 (dōngxi) hat im Chinesischen zwei Bedeutungen: zum einen heißt es Gegenstand, Sache, Ding, Objekt, zum anderen sind damit die Himmelsrichtungen Ost und West gemeint.
„Zwei Blöcke Ost und West“ ist der Titel einer Designausstellung, die Arbeiten von zehn jungen Modedesignern, Produktdesignern und Innenarchitekten vorstellt.
東西 bezeichnet hier also einerseits Designobjekte oder modische Gegenstände, andererseits realisiert der Begriff die Verbindung zwischen Ost und West, zwischen Deutschland und China.
In den 90er Jahren, dem Jahrzehnt nach der Wiedervereinigung, hat sich in Deutschland eine kulturelle Vielfalt etabliert, die den verschiedensten Konzepten und Ideen eine Position bot. Diese Ausstellung präsentiert eine Auswahl von Arbeiten der „Nach-Wende-Zeit“, die nicht nur das konventionelle Designsystem hinterfragen, sondern die ferner die sozialen Gebrauchsweisen der Objekte umgestalten. Ein hochkarätiges Beispiel hierfür ist das Design-Projekt BLESS.
Gleichzeitig soll die Ausstellung – abseits traditioneller Vorstellungen über deutsches Design – mehr Freiraum für experimentelle und offene gestalterische Arbeiten bieten.
Zwei Vertreter der ausstellenden Designer werden bei der Eröffnung anwesend sein.

“Two Blocks” indicates “material goods” or design products; “Two Blocks” indicates “region”, specifically China and Germany. “Two Blocks East West” introduces the fashion, product and space design of ten young designers from Germany. Among them are the luminaries behind the label BLESS, whose two designers represent the artistic vanguard in Europe, and have traveled to the capital especially for the opening. During the 1990s, shortly after East and West Europe were reunited, an enormously tolerant and culturally pluralistic new Germany was constantly enhancing itself; any kind of cultural stance or notion was quickly able to carve out its own niche. The designers introduced here and their works are a sampling from this period of “cultural profusion”. Their works not only “provoke” the accepted design norms, these designers hope to use their “provocative” works to destabilize the lifestyle modes that everyone is already so familiar with. At the same time, this group exhibition strives to smash our traditional recognition of the “exhibition”–– as well as our preconceived notions of German design products––by showing German design of a less-restrained disposition. Hopefully here, mere “design products” will mature into a far-reaching, popular-lifestyle influencing reality, as well as create an opportunity for German design to go public in the Chinese market.
