China prosecutes 39 members of major telecom fraud gangs in northern Myanmar

On December 30, after a lawful review, the People's Procuratorate of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, has legally filed public prosecution against 39 members of the Ming Family crime group from northern Myanmar's Kokang region and related crime group members. A total of 39 members from several telecom fraud criminal gangs based in northern Myanmar have been placed under public prosecution on charges including fraud, intentional homicide, intentional injury, unlawful detention, operating casinos, drug trafficking and organizing prostitution, according to the Wenzhou People's Procuratorate in Zhejiang province on Monday.

The groups, operating in Kokang in northern Myanmar, were accused of using armed forces to carry out large-scale telecom and internet fraud targeting civilians in China.

Following an investigation, the procuratorate has filed charges against 39 individuals, including Mg Myin Shaunt Phyin and Ma Thiri Maung, who were involved in the fraud and related criminal activities.

The case has been submitted to the Wenzhou Intermediate People's Court in accordance with the Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law of the People's Republic of China.(Li Shangyi)
