Edge Gallery is pleased to announce the group exhibition of six young Hong Kong female artist: Casper Chan Hiu-Kwan, Susan Chan So-Shan, Cindy Chan Hin-Sin, Elise Lai Yuen-Shan, Bouie Choi Yuk-Kuen, and Kitty Ko Sin-Tung. Opening reception will take place on Saturday 6 December, 2008, 6pm-8pm at Edge Gallery, G/F 60C Leighton Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. Media Friends are all welcome to meet the artists and have interviews with them during the opening. Please contact us for reservations.

All 6 artists are female. By coincidence they all concern about subtle feelings in life. Living in today’s society, the population ratio of female and male gradually becomes unbalanced. Along with this fact, the number of female who study and participate in art also increased. When comparing to the female in the last few decades who fought for the unequal status of their identity and rights in a society, the increase of opportunity to speak up by the female nowadays is rather deserved. Without the interest conflict between the two sexes, and also without a mutual goal to fight for, the concern of some of the female in the new generation turns back to their own life. Therefore, what does the new generation female art today show about our time, comparing to that of the female of previous generations?

“homee” is a created term, with the word “home” combine with the suffix “-ee”, which means anyone who is closely related to home. “home e” is also the proverb of “home economic”, a subject which has to be studied by most of the girls in the secondary school in Hong Kong. “home e” is a common language between girls who grew up in Hong Kong. In our exhibition , we looked for female artists in the new generation who contain an obvious feminine character. Within the spectrum of the diverse characters of female artists today, the commonness of this unique and still easily-identifiable feminine quality is being highlighted. They are perceptual and delicate. They don’t have the ambition to deconstruct the character of sex, but they have their own satisfaction. The relationship between their artworks and their feminine character is intimate.
