Goethe and Auerbach’s Cellar
Goethe, the father of German literature, studied in Leipzig between 1765 and 1768. A visitor to the Auerbachs Keller restaurant, he immortalised it by entitling a scene in his play Faust "Auerbachs Keller in Leipzig".
Gewandhausorchester und Gewandhaus zu Leipzig (Gewandhaus Orchestra)
Leipzig is internationally also known as a city of music. This is closely associated with the Gewandhaus Orchestra, which is based in the Gewandhaus on Augustusplatz. Its history began with the "Grosse Concert" founded in 1743, making it the oldest civic orchestra in Germany.

Oper Leipzig (Leipzig Opera Company)
The Leipzig Opera Company dates back to 1693, making it the second-oldest opera company in the country. At the end of the last century it was twice voted European Opera House of the year. Nowadays Leipzig Opera House boasts one of the best ballet companies in Europe, an opera choir, a children`s choir and a ballett school.

Nikolaikirche (St. Nicholas’s Church)
St. Nicholas’s Church is the oldest and biggest church of Leipzig. In 1982, when the first people assembled in St. Nicholas's Church for the Prayers for Peace, nobody suspected that these meetings would eventually mark the beginning of a revolution. The following Monday demonstrations of the autumn '89 saw several 100,000 people in the streets and tiggered monumental changes that went down in German history.

Voelkerschlachtdenkmal (Monument to the Battle of the Nations):
The largest memorial in Europe and featuring a viewing platform at a height of 91m, it was erected to commemorate the 1813 Battle of Leipzig.

BMW Factory Building
In 2005 BMW has opened a new branch in Leipzig. The central building, which was designed by the London architect Zaha Hadid, is said to be the heart of this arrangement. For the design Zaha Hadid was honored with the German Architecture Award 2005. Guided tours can be booked t in German or English for groups up to 30 persons. The tour is scheduled to last 2,5h.

Mendelssohn House
Mendelssohn House is the only surviving residence of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, and the place where he died. Today, Mendelssohn House is a museum, where many exhibits including his original furniture are on display.

The Schiller House
Friedrich Schillers summer quarter of the year 1785 is situated in Leipzig-Gohlis. It is the oldest literary memorial of Germany.
