“泰戈爾有句詩：鳥兒飛過天空，不留下任何痕跡，但它仍欣喜，曾經飛過。很有意境，現實中人也是這樣，在世上匆匆走過，什麼也留不下。攝影的作用就是把這個痕跡留下來，讓這個痕跡跟景物重疊和融合，以一種融入作者情感的可視方式錶現出來。而不僅僅是一種簡單紀錄。
通常認為，攝影是一門瞬間的藝術。現在，攝影手法和觀念更加多元，可以將好多個瞬間重疊在一起，造成時空的穿越，表達一種時間延續的概念，不僅僅是一個瞬間。利用瞬間的重疊造成時間的延續感，就像電影畫面的切入切出。
單純古老的東西太壓抑了，單純現代的東西又容易淺薄。把兩者結合起來，在傳統古老中注入新鮮的時代元素。用在拍攝北京這種既古老又和當代交融充滿活力的城市很恰當。

1984華北油田鑽井工人，開始自學攝影；
1995中央工藝美院攝影專業學習；
1997北京電影學院攝影學院圖片攝影專業；
1998 組照〈通道〉五人攝影展 北京
1999.拍攝《故宮》組照，《中國攝影》2000.2發表；
2001 《自然與人》亞洲青年攝影展
《時尚家居》特約攝影師
現為：自由職業攝影師

Artist Statement by Xiaochun Ma
I enjoy very much one of the poems by the acclaimed Indian Poet Rabindranath Tagore: “Bird flies over the sky without leaving any trace; but it rejoices as it flies.” How apt and beautiful scenery it describes. In reality, people live in a hurry and take nothing with them when they pass away.
Photographs are NOT merely “recordings”. The function of photography is to record the traces of life, to mix and harmonize them with whatever surrounds life, and to portray the photographer’s personal touch and feelings by his own visual expression..
Traditionally, photography is regarded as an art of capturing instant images. Nowadays, there are more dimensions to photographic presentations and definitions. For example, one could put together different instant images to reflect the surpassing time and space, and to express the continuance of time, which is employed by the same techniques we see in movies.
To capture and show purely ancient and past images may be depressing, but to reflect only modern elements might be considered shallow. A city like Beijing is best approached by mixing the ancient with the modern, by injecting fresh modern elements into its rich traditions. Beijing is an ancient city with its modern vigor and energies.
Fine quality photography should keep pace with and speak for Time and Place.

1984 started the career of photography by self-taught
