Xi'an accelerates its development in key areas

Xi'an, capital of China's Northwest Shaanxi province, has made great progress in the development of advanced manufacturing, improvements to education and in expanding its workforce since the start of the year, according to a news conference held by the city on Aug 12.

From January to June, the value of Xi'an's advanced manufacturing output jumped 23.3 percent, compared with the same period last year. The growth rates for high-tech industries and strategic emerging industries during the period were 28.5 percent and 22.7 percent, respectively.

In the year to date,109 key municipal-level advanced manufacturing projects had completed investment of 57.07 billion yuan ($8.81 billion) in the city, which was 26 percentage points above the target.

In terms of improvements to education, Xi'an has worked hard to advance school construction since the start of the year. In the fall semester, 143 newly built, renovated and expanded schools will start operating, an increase of 17 on the original plans for 126, with 22,400 study positions added.

This year, 148 high schools in the city, with a planned enrollment of 56,030 students, have already enrolled 55,898 students.

The city has also been active in expanding its workforce with top-flight people. As of July, 141,267 people had moved to the city this year, including 78,403 talents of various types and 7,196 professionals with master's degrees and doctorates, completing 78.4 percent of the annual target.

In addition, the city has registered 2,716 talented technology products and patents, solved 507 technical problems and carried out 402 key talent projects so far this year.
