The Xi'an municipal government held a news conference on June 9 to discuss its achievements in traffic optimization and improvement since 2020 in Xi'an, capital city of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The average operating speed of public buses in the city is currently 24.62 kilometers per hour, an increase of 16.3 percent over 2019, and the average operating speed of taxis in May was the highest in the past three months, reaching 25.88 km/h, an increase of five percent.
Since 2020, 668.08 km of greenways have been built in the city, and the first bicycle commuting demonstration section extending from Qujiang New Area to the Xi'an High-tech Industry Development Zone, with a length of 13.8 kilometers, has been completed.
In the past year, 12 new bus depots have been built, covering an area of 155.9 mu (10.39 hectares), and the arrival rate of buses has reached 72.87 percent, further alleviating urban road congestion.
A total of 172 new bus lines have been opened, optimized, or adjusted. There are currently 333 connecting lines between conventional buses and 153 metro stations, and the connection distance is just 100-150 meters, allowing for seamless transfers between metro and bus.
More than 300 bus lines in the city have realized intelligent dispatching, allowing passengers' access to real-time bus travel information through their mobile phones.
As of the end of May, the upgrading and transformation of 599 backstreets and alleys had been completed. The number of motor vehicles in the city reached 4.2 million, ranking seventh in the country, with more than 5 million drivers.
This year, the city plans to start construction on at least than 15,000 public parking spaces, including 5,000 in the central city. A total of 9,671 have already started construction, and the rest will start before the end of July.
