On July 1, 2021, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, declared at a ceremony marking the centenary of the CPC that through the continued efforts of the whole Party and the entire nation, we have realized the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
Over the past hundred years, led by the CPC, generations of the Chinese people have persevered progressing step by step from a subsistence standard of living to piecemeal prosperity, then to moderate prosperity throughout the country.
In September 2021, the State Council Information Office issued the white paper “China’s Epic Journey from Poverty to Prosperity”, introducing to the world China’s exploration and practice in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and sharing the country’s experiences in realizing modernization:
2021年7月1日，習近平總書記在慶祝中國共産黨成立100週年大會上莊嚴宣告，經過全黨全國各族人民持續奮鬥，我們實現了第一個百年奮鬥目標，在中華大地上全面建成了小康社會。
100年來，中國共産黨團結帶領中國人民頑強拼搏，幾代人一以貫之、接續奮鬥，從“小康之家”到“小康社會”，從“總體小康”到“全面小康”，從“全面建設”到“全面建成”，小康目標不斷實現，小康夢想成為現實。
2021年9月，中國國務院新聞辦公室發佈《中國的全面小康》白皮書，向世界介紹了中國全面建成小康社會的探索實踐，分享了中國式現代化的建設經驗：
China’s GDP soared from RMB67.9 billion in 1952 to RMB101.6 trillion in 2020.
中國國內生産總值從1952年的679.1億元躍升至2020年的101.6萬億元。
As the world’s second largest economy, it accounts for over 17 percent of the global total.
經濟總量佔全球經濟比重超過17%，穩居世界第二大經濟體。
By the end of 2020, all of the 99 million rural poor, and all of the 832 counties and 128,000 villages classified as poor under China’s current poverty line, had emerged from poverty.
到2020年底，中國如期完成新時代脫貧攻堅目標任務，現行標準下9899萬農村貧困人口全部脫貧，832個貧困縣全部摘帽，12.8萬個貧困村全部出列。
The basic national policy of gender equality has been universally applied.
堅持男女平等基本國策。
Women account for about half of the 99 million people who have emerged from poverty.
實現脫貧的近1億人口中婦女約佔一半。
To ensure the education and health of children in poor areas and make any necessary interventions, benefiting a total of 11.2 million children.
對兒童教育和健康實施全過程保障和干預，累計有1120萬兒童受益。
Helping more than 7 million poor disabled people out of poverty.
700多萬貧困殘疾人如期脫貧。
From 1949 to 2020, the percentage of permanent urban residents in the overall population rose from 10.6 percent to 63.9 percent, and the number of cities grew from 132 to 687, while the number of administrative towns soared from 2,000 to more than 21,000.
從1949年至2020年，常住人口城鎮化率由10.6%提高到63.9%，城市數量由132個增長到687個，建制鎮數量由2000個增長到2.1萬多個。
Looking back, we have made great and historic achievements in solving the problem of extreme poverty that has plagued the Chinese nation for thousands of years, and brought about a miracle in humanity’s history of poverty reduction. Looking ahead, we are now striving toward the historic ambition of building a modern socialist country in all respects. The journey will be long, but all we can do is keep fighting and pushing forward. The whole Party and the entire nation must unite more closely around the Central Committee, and we must dedicate ourselves to doing solid work with confidence, determination, and an indomitable spirit of persistence as we advance toward achieving the second Centenary Goal.
