講仁愛:仁德心,愛眾人

“仁”是中華傳統美德“仁義禮智信”五常之首,與西方倡導的“博愛”相對應,是傳統美德的象徵,在我國源遠流長。“講仁愛”是我國傳統儒家思想中最核心的價值理念,也是中國古人最基本的道德精神和行為規範。

Among all five traditional Chinese virtues——benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom and trustworthiness——benevolence is the first. Corresponding to Philanthropy in western culture, it has been of long standing and regarded as the symbol of our traditional morality.

“講仁愛”是我國傳統儒家思想中最核心的價值理念,也是中國古人最基本的道德精神和行為規範。

Maintaining benevolence is the most core value of our traditional Confucianism, also, it is the most basic morality belief and behavior principle of ancient Chinese.

孔子之前已有了“仁”的概念與“仁愛”的思想,

The concept of “benevolence” and the thought of “benevolence and kindness” have been existed long before Confucius in our history.

孔子第一次明確地把“仁愛”作為禮樂文明的核心精神,把“仁”界定為“愛人”

But it was Confucius who firstly took it as the kernel connotation of the ritual civilization, and defined “benevolence” as the “love for others”.

“樊遲問仁,子曰:‘愛人。’”。他把“愛親”規定為“仁”的本始,由“愛親”推廣到“愛人”,到“泛愛眾”,即對他人應該同情、關心和愛護。

Fan Chi asked what is benevolence, and Confucius said, to love others. He regarded the “love for relatives” as the aboriginal of “benevolence”, and generalized this concept from the “love for relatives” to the “love for others”, and even the “pan-loving public” which means man should be sympathy, caring and cherishing to the others.

儒家講“仁愛”講得很平實,從每個人對父母、親人的情感開始。

Confucianism tells the thought of “benevolence” using plain language, it originates from our emotion to parents and relatives.

“仁”是以親愛親人為起點的道德感,首先是孝敬父母、尊重兄長,以這種愛為基點,然後把它擴充出去。

As a moral sense which takes the “love for relatives” as its starting point, “benevolence” requires us to honor parents and respect brothers and sisters in the first place.

由愛親人推到愛陌生人,由愛百姓推到愛萬物,愛草木鳥獸、瓦石山水,表達了一種普遍的同情心、愛心與正義感。

On this base, Confucianism expands this love in a broader sense, from the “love for relatives” to the “pan-loving public”, and from the “love for human beings” to the “love for the universe” which means to love each vegetation, animals, and landscapes. It now represents a kind of universal sympathy, compassion and sense of justice.

這也就包含了我們今天所謂生態環保的意思。

Therefore, it also contains a sense of ecological protection which we frequently discuss today.

歷史上,在中華各民族融合的過程中,帶有草根性的“仁愛”思想逐漸普及到千家萬戶,傳承於世世代代,體現了各民族普通老百姓的基本訴求,成為中國人思想中根深蒂固的傳統美德。

Throughout the history, the thought of “benevolence” with a grass-root nature has spread wildly into every household during the merging process of different ethnics of China, and it finally became an entrenched traditional virtue in our culture after generations’ inheritance as it represents the fundamental demand of ordinary people of all ethnics.

它提倡人與人相愛,尊重人的價值,標誌著“人”的發現,與現代意義上的“以人為本”理念,有著某種程度上的意義相接,

As it calls for the kindness between people and respect of human value, it represents the discovery of “human” and builds a connection with the modern ideal of “people-first” to some degree.

可以作為現代人文精神的價值資源。

Therefore, “benevolence” can be seen as a valuable source of the modern human spirit.

“仁愛”是社會主義核心價值觀的重要源泉,現代社會、國家、個人的發展,必須以“愛人”“成己成人成物”為前提與目的。

Moreover, “benevolence” is also a significant source of “socialist core value”, loving each other must become the precondition and at the same time the purpose of the development of modern society, country and citizens.

我們可以毫不誇張地説,“仁愛”是社會主義核心價值觀二十四個字的總的基礎,尤其是“和諧”“公正”“敬業”“友善”的發祥地。

It is no exaggeration that “benevolence” is the fundament of the twenty four-word “socialist core value”, especially the origin of “impartiality”, “integrity” and “fraternization”.

在中外各文明對話、交融的過程中,中國的“仁愛”思想的價值原則,也一直起著積極的作用。

Chinese value principle of “benevolence” has always had a positive effect during the dialogue and mixture of different civilizations.

在世界各種版本的《人權宣言》中,在《世界倫理宣言》中,中國的“仁愛”思想都成為其中重要的精神或原則。

By way of examples, the thought becomes an important spirit or principle in the declaration of Human Rights and World Ethics Declaration of all language versions.

在未來的國際事務中,這一思想還將啟示著國與國之間平等互利和開放包容的關係,並積極促進國際秩序向公正合理的方向發展。

We believe that it will continue to be an inspiration of the equal and mutual beneficial, open and inclusive relation between nations and make the international order more just and equitable in the future.
