“Wangang” Temple Fair in Dajin Boosts Stall Economy

Affectionately known as“Wangang” by locals, the week-long annual temple fair of Dajin township lowered its curtain on June 21. This unique fair, brimming with cherished memories, drew the local residents and their families and friends to join in with great enthusiasm.

Stepping into the fairground, visitors were greeted by a lively scene. Amidst the bustling crowd, parent-child activities were a heartwarming sight. Archery and balloon shooting games attracted many eager participants, while the joyful laughter coming from the bouncy castles,“underwater world”, bumper cars, and flying chairs filled the air. The food section was a collection of delicacies from across China, including Changsha stinky tofu, Mongolian barbecue, Dalian squid, and stretchy hot dogs, catering to diverse palates. In the household goods section, the exquisite ceramic bowls from Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province emerged as the most sought-after items, while other cost-effective and practical utensils also captivated homemakers.

The massive influx of visitors led enterprising residents near the fairground to set up their own stalls, with a rough estimate putting the number of these mobile vendors at around a hundred. Thus, the fair enabled the surrounding communities to partake in the benefits of stall economy and embark on the path towards common prosperity together.

Apart from seasonal fruits like bayberries and watermelons, and specialty snacks such as Shilian (a type of lotus seed) jelly, this year’s fair also showcased premium local products such as Dendrobium officinale and Yandang tea. Exquisitely packaged, these offerings caught the attention of tourists and deepened their understanding of the local specialties.

Boasting a total of 227 stalls, the fair presented a rich tapestry of experiences, ranging from amusement facilities and intangible cultural heritage to food, clothing, daily necessities, and traditional Chinese medicine.(ZhongXin)
