Binhai New Area, a coastal area of Tianjin, is looking to boost its manufacturing industries to become more advanced, intelligent and green, and accelerate its modern industrial structures to take shape, the district’s top official said at the ongoing annual two sessions.
Shan Zefeng, head of the district and also a deputy to the National People’s Congress, said that in the next three years, the area— which is regarded as the industrial engine of the city— will build 10 industrial clusters for the bio-manufacturing, cell and gene treatment, brain science and intelligent medicine sectors.
”A total of 50 technological applications scenarios will be set up, and we expect to foster up to 100 companies in the area within the period,” he said.

He also set his sights on boosting the strength of its competitive industries including petrochemicals, offshore oil and gas exploration and development, new energy auto and the internet of vehicles, including its new energy vehicles of the FAW Toyota and Great Wall Automobile.
At the top of the area’s agenda is that it will promote projects involving an investment of 1.5 trillion yuan ($215 billion) to be carried out steadily and smoothly, he said.
Construction of up to 223 projects with an investment of 161.5 billion yuan, including an aerospace equipment industrial park and new projects of the Lenovo science innovation park, will be kicked off.
More projects, including BorgWarner’s new energy products, Novo Nordisk’s production expansion project and research centers of solar energy battery and national synthetic biology, will put in to operation in the near future, he said.
