Tianjin Is Ready: Green & Low-Carbon Leads Better Life

Tianjin, located in the northeast of the North China Plain with the Bohai Sea to the east, is on the east coast of Eurasia at mid-latitude. It has four distinct seasonswith cold and dry winters. However, in this small house of solar energy, the four seasons can be mild as spring with constant temperature and humidity. People's life is close to zero energy consumption.

This is the Zero Energy Building of the Hui Feng Xi ecological livable smart energy town. All electrical equipment in the house is intelligent products. With a voice command, the indoor overhead lights and electric curtains would automatically open. By one touch, the household appliances can be remote-control.

In 2018, the State Grid Corporation of China signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Tianjin city, investing 66.5 billion yuan in three years to rebuild a brand new Tianjin power grid, and a large number of technical achievements have been implemented, among which is the Hui Feng Xi Smart Energy Town.

“In this three years, we issued China's first government-enterprise cooperation 'double carbon' leading demonstration zone implementation plan, set up the country's first 'double carbon' industry alliance, built the first 'near zero carbon' charging stations, set up the first electricity-light-heat integrated building power system, operated the world's first eight ports ac/dc hybrid power distribution network project, developed the world's first stationary synchronous series compensator, and built the world's first 'zero-carbon' dock with Tianjin Port.”

That is simply an epitome of Tianjin's energy development. Tianjin is stepping into the track of high-quality development with a brand new attitude and in an all round way. In the process of implementing the national"double carbon" strategy, Tianjin has achieved initial results in building a circular economy and serving the regional green and high-quality development: the country's first set of"zero-carbon demonstration unit standard system" has been released in Tianjin., the proportion of renewable energy consumption such as wind power and photovoltaic energy has increased significantly, and the offshore oil and gas exploration and development technology has reached world-class level and so on.

Development never stops. In the beginning of 2022, Tianjin released the 14^th“five-year plan” of its energy development and thence has accelerated the transition to clean and low-carbon development by unfolding a package of actions to achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality in the energy sector. 2022 is a critical year of implementing the 14^th“five-year plan” and Tianjin has obviously achieved outstanding results: Dagang Oilfield and Bohai Oilfield have both increased storage and production with oil and gas output reaching 37.2 million tons and LNG gasification export capacity reaching 44 million cubic meters per day; the power supply has continued increasing, with the installed capacity of the city reached 20.58 million kw, and the electricity consumption of the whole society reached 98.2 billion KWH,  increasing by 35.47% and 15.41% respectively compared with that in 2015; renewable energy has maintained the momentum of growth, with the installed capacity reaching 3.53 million kw, a six-fold increase over 2015.  

More than more citizens have experienced the benefits of energy development. In 2022, more than 3,000 charging facilities of various kinds have been installed in densely populated areas such as old residential areas, realizing"charging freedom" at the doorstep. The new Internet-of-things smart gas meters enable users to complete online gas purchase, remote valve closure, automatic alarm and other functions without leaving home, which improves the security greatly and has solved the big trouble for the elderly people and those living alone.

2023 is the first year to fully implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. Tianjin plans the city development from the national point of view and aims to contribute to the whole nation by coordinating and implementing ten actions including green and low-carbon development.

In the future, Tianjin will continue to provide"demonstration" and"pioneer" power for the realization of the national"double carbon" goal, and build itself into a pioneer city of energy revolution.
