Fujian, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu claim wins in women's volleyball league quarters
BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Fujian beat Beijing in straight sets in the Chinese Women’s Volleyball Super League quarterfinals in Shangrao City, east China’s Jiangxi Province on Thursday.
Tianjin, Shanghai and Jiangsu also enjoyed opening wins in the best-of-three series.
In the absence of several Beijing players, Fujian won comfortably 25-14, 25-20, 25-20.
Fujian opposite Zheng Yixin top scored with 16 points, while opposite Heidy Casanova scored 11 for Beijing.
Defending champions Tianjin recovered from one set down to defeat Shandong 23-25, 25-8, 25-20 and 25-21.
Star spiker Li Yingying scored a game-high 29 points for Tianjin, while Dobriana Rabadzhieva contributed 18 points for Shandong.
Shanghai eased past Liaoning 25-15, 25-13, 25-13, while Jiangsu downed Shenzhen 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23.
In the quarterfinals, the top four finishers in Groups G and H face off each other in reverse order. The second tie will take place on Friday.
