Laos continues to tackle challenges in minerals management

The Lao government will continue to tackle challenges in the development and management of minerals to implement a strategic plan for mineral development, local media reported.

The issues were discussed at a seminar organized by the Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines, focusing on the implementation of Vision 2035 and the mineral development strategic plan for 2021-2030.

The seminar was a good opportunity for the mining sector to disseminate information regarding the strategic plan and mineral development work and increase public understanding, local news website Lao Pattana News reported on Monday.

The meeting, held in Lao capital Vientiane on May 3, was attended by Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Sommad Pholsena, government officials and representatives of the business sector.

Some key issues and challenges in this sector include the determination of the rights, roles and management of relevant sectors, especially the sectors of industry, trade, environment, finance, public works and transport, according to the report.
