Germany boosts EV exports by 58 pct in 2023

Germany exported approximately 786,000 fully electric vehicles (EVs) in 2023, marking a 58 percent growth over the previous year, according to figures published by the Federal Statistical Office on Monday.

According to the data, one in four new cars exported from Germany last year featured an all-electric drive. EV exports reached 36 billion euros (38.9 billion U.S. dollars), nearly triple the figure in 2021.

Germany's EV imports witnessed a significant boost, with a 23.5 percent surge to 446,000 last year. Almost 30 percent of these imports originated from China.

Hildegard Mueller, president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, emphasized the significant shifts German carmakers are undergoing amidst the transition to electric mobility. In an interview with Deutsche Welle on Sunday, she highlighted the industry's commitment and substantial investments in navigating these transformations.

Mueller also highlighted the dynamic growth of the Chinese market and China's pivotal role in the successful transformation towards electromobility and digitalization, expressing the German side's eagerness "to participate in it."
