China renews orange alert for rainstorms

China's National Meteorological Center continued to issue an orange alert for rainstorms on Sunday as heavy downpours are expected to lash parts of the country.

From Sunday evening to Monday evening, heavy rains and rainstorms are forecast to hit parts of Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang, the center said.

In particular, parts of Guangdong are forecast to be hit by torrential rains, with rainfall of 100-180 mm, according to the meteorological center.

Local governments have been urged to cut dangerous outdoor power supplies and suspend outdoor operations in open areas.

The center also suggested taking necessary drainage measures in urban areas and farmlands, while guarding against possible disasters such as mountain torrents, landslides and mudslides.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
