Tanzania welcomes investment in ICT, digital transformation

Tanzanian Vice President Philip Mpango on Thursday invited investors from across the world to invest in information and communications technology and digital transformation.

"ICT and digital transformation are among the key drivers of rapid development," said Mpango when he opened the first EU-Tanzania Business Forum in Dar es Salaam.

He said Tanzania's national ICT policy advocated for investment in building digital infrastructure such as data farms and digital technology institutes.

"This move is aimed at enhancing skills and capitalizing on the cutting-edge digital innovations such as robotic engineering and artificial intelligence," he told the forum attended by more than 800 investors from EU member states and over 150 Tanzanian companies.

Mpango mentioned other areas of investment as agriculture, logistics, tourism, energy and manufacturing industries.

He said the government of Tanzania is focused on building a vibrant economy underpinned by four pillars of reform, reconciliation, resilience and rebuilding.

He also said the reforms, among others, were aimed at enhancing transparency, addressing red tape and other related bottlenecks to trade and investment.

In addition, the government has taken steps to strengthen and modernize the Tanzania Investment Center and the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority to be able to serve effectively as one-stop centers for investment promotion and facilitation, said Mpango.
