No casualties reported after 5.1-magnitude quake in China's Sichuan
No casualties have been reported after a 5.1-magnitude earthquake jolted southwest China's Sichuan Province on Wednesday, according to local authorities.
As of 5:30 p.m., 645 homes have been damaged to varying degrees and a total of 1,045 residents have been relocated to safety, the publicity department of Xingwen County said.
Two sections of a provincial-level highway faced interruptions, but power supply and communications remain unaffected, the department said.
An emergency response mechanism has been initiated and 391 rescue workers have been sent to the affected area.
The quake struck Xingwen County of Yibin City at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Beijing Time. The epicenter was recorded at a latitude of 28.22 degrees north and a longitude of 105.03 degrees east, at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
