"Uncharted" tops North American box office for 2nd straight weekend

Sony Pictures' action-adventure film "Uncharted" repeated as the winner of the North American box office with a three-day estimate of 23.25 million U.S. dollars on its second weekend of release, according to studio figures released by measurement firm Comscore on Sunday.

Set to be released in China on March 14, "Uncharted" has grossed 83 million dollars after ten days of release in North America and 35 million dollars in 64 overseas markets this weekend, with a massive global total of 226.4 million dollars to date.

Based on popular video game series of the same name and directed by Ruben Fleischer, "Uncharted" stars Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, along with Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas in supporting roles.

With a reported 120-million-dollar budget, the film follows street-smart Nathan Drake, who is recruited by a seasoned treasure hunter to solve one of the world's oldest mysteries and recover a great fortune lost 500 years ago.

United Artists Releasing's buddy comedy film "Dog," co-directed by and starring Channing Tatum, held the second place with 10.12 million dollars on its second weekend for a North American cume of 30.89 million dollars.

Rounding out the top 3, Sony's presentation of Columbia Pictures' superhero film "Spider-Man: No Way Home" brought in 5.75 million dollars on its eleventh weekend, pushing its North American total to 779.88 million dollars. Directed by Jon Watts, the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the third Tom Holland-led Spider-Man film.
