Serbia beat Brazil to secure Women's Basketball World Cup place

Serbia's women's basketball team defeated Brazil 76-70 in the final matchday of the FIBA World Cup qualifierrs in Belgrade on Sunday, finishing first in Group A ahead of Australia and South Korea.

Serbia steadily built a lead over the first half thanks to points of Tina Krajsnik and Yvonne Anderson, but Brazil managed to even the scores at 57-57 by the end of the third quarter, and took over the lead with a three-pointer from Mariane De Carvalho.

The home team stayed focused and claimed the victory in the finish of the match, spearheaded by Yvonne Anderson who scored 25 points, along with six assists.

De Carvalho was most efficient in Brazil's ranks with 18 points.

Earlier in the day, Australia defeated South Korea 79-61 to take second place in Group A, although it automatically qualifies for the World Cup as the host nation. South Korea finished third and will also participate in September's tournament.

In Group B, China finished first ahead of Nigeria and France, which also qualified for this year's World Cup.
