25,000 passengers affected in Taiwan pilot strike

About 200 flights and 25,000 passengers were affected in a seven-day strike by Taiwan-based China Airlines pilots who announced an end to the strike on Thursday night.

The end came after the airline and the Pilots Union Taoyuan reached a complete agreement following four rounds of negotiations on issues such as fatigued pilots, flight safety and bonuses.

The airline agreed not to seek revenge while the union pledged not to strike within three years.

They also reached consensus on transparent co-pilot training and promotion, as well as replacement of the airline manager in charge of labor relations.

The Pilots Union Taoyuan agreed to suspend the strike for a year after negotiating with the Taoyuan city government in August 2018, but the union decided to relaunch the strike earlier this month after the airline has allegedly ignored the union's request concerning fatigued pilots.
