Kremlin denies intervention in Israeli elections

Russia has never interfered in the elections of other countries including Israel, despite reports to the contrary by Israeli media, the Kremlin said Wednesday.

"Do not read these Israeli news outlets ... It is out of the question. Russia has never interfered in elections in any country and has no plans to do it in the future," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted by Tass news agency as saying.

On Dec. 24, Israel's ruling coalition decided to dissolve the parliament and announced early elections in April instead of November as originally planned amidst a crisis over the conscription of ultra-Orthodox Jews.

On Monday, the Israel Television News Company reported that the head of the country's Shin Bet security service said a foreign country intends to intervene in its early elections, and the suspicion mainly fell on Moscow.
