Re-elected Bangladeshi PM Hasina to form new cabinet before Jan. 10
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling Bangladesh Awami League, which clinched a landslide victory in Sunday's violence-hit general election, will form its new cabinet before Jan. 10, the party's General Secretary Obaidul Quader said Tuesday.
Quader, also the country's road transport and bridges minister, told journalists that preparations were underway to form the new government with Hasina as the prime minister.
Her second straight five-year term of the longest serving Bangladeshi prime minister will end this month.
Hasina is set to serve a record fourth term in office with her party gaining a stunning majority on its own in the parliament.
Meanwhile, Newly elected members of the Bangladeshi parliament will take oath on Jan. 3, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said.
Hasina's ruling party has won 259 out 298 parliament seats followed by its key ally the former President HM Ershad's Jatiya Party with 20 seats in Sunday's election marred by violence. At least 17 people were killed in election-related violence.
