Huang Xiaoyun, a student from the conservatory, claimed the title, while a duo consisting of Xu Tiange and Liu Xiangting from Beijing Dance Academy won the second place. Lu Minxue of Beijing Film Academy finished with third place.

The campus singer competition attracted students from 41 universities including Renming University of China, Communication University of China and Beijing Film Academy. Those who entered the competition were not only amateurs singers, but also professionals who had already achieved notable status in the music industry. Amongst them was Huang Xiaoyun, who had previously ranked in the top 16 of the fourth season of the Chinese reality talent show "The Voice of China."

The competition forms part of a campaign held by Beijing World Horticulture Expo Coordination Bureau, in conjunction with the government of Yanqing district, the host of 2019 World Horticulture Expo, and the Beijing Commission of the Communist Youth League. The stated aim is to get more people involved in the coming expo.

Altogether, more than 1 million students from 94 universities will ultimately participate in the campaign, which features ten forms of activities. These include a horticultural knowledge contest, singing competition, dance competition, painting contest and a Yanqing homestay tourism design. Each contest is represented by a flower such as lily, peony, rose, jasmine and camellia.
