CGTN launches multinational TV show to promote cultural exchange

Teaming up with experts from Greece, Egypt and India, China Global Television Network (CGTN) has launched a multinational primetime talk show, to explore the origin of the great ancient cultures, and to investigate their revival and influence on the modern world.

The show, named Dialogue of Civilization: Cooperation and Conflict, is co-hosted by anchors from CGTN, Nile TV Egypt, NDTV India, and ERT Greece. It invites scholars and experts from the four countries to debate on four major topics - the conflict, competition, origin and future of civilizations.

During the show's launch ceremony, held in Beijing on Thursday, distinguished guests from the four nations gathered to discuss the rise and fall of civilizations around the world, the future of cultural diversity, the inspirations that the modern world can draw from its past, and how the public can rejuvenate time-honored legacies in the new era.

Jiang Heping, Controller of CGTN, pointed out that the modern world has banished the ‘Clash of Civilizations’ to usher in dialogue and communication. Both the past and the present have shown that good interaction between countries and cultures are usually the times when conflicts are under more effective control.

He further noted that all civilizations are equal and they should be equally respected and appreciated.

Echoing Jiang, Indian Ambassador Gautam Bambawale stated that India believes there must be a dialogue among people who look different, speak different languages and believe in different religions.

Greek Ambassador Leonidas Rokanas emphasized that civilizations are the key to not only understanding how the world evolved, but also how it is moving forward, while Egyptian Cultural Counselor Hussein Ibrahim reiterated that civilizations need cooperation and dialogue, which must be facilitated through language, people-to-people exchange, and collaborative initiatives such as “One Belt One Road”.

The TV show will broadcast at the same time by all four TV channels on Nov. 28, 2018.
