Apple takes action to protect Chinese users
Apple Inc said on Tuesday that it has taken measure to safeguard the interests of Chinese users whose accounts are likely to be accessed through phishing scams where two-factor authentication was not enabled on their devices.
The United States tech giant said it has started investigation into the reported phishing scams and the unauthorized payments with Apple accounts and found that a small number of its users' accounts were accessed through phishing scams where two-factor authentication was not enabled.
"We have taken several actions to protect our customers and have prevented a significant number of fraudulent transactions. For example, we are rejecting riskier orders by challenging recently altered accounts attempting to make purchases," Apple said in a statement. "We have already seen a dramatic reduction in those issues because of our continued efforts."
"We are proactively identifying suspicious activities and reaching out to affected customers. We strongly advise all users to enable two-factor authentication, which prevents unauthorized access to their accounts," Apple added.
