Police in the Florida city of Jacksonville said Sunday a mass shooting has led to multiple fatalities, and the lone shooter is dead at the scene.
"Multiple fatalities at the scene, many transported," the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said on twitter, following up on earlier reports of the shooting in Jacksonville Landing, a downtown market place.
The police said that one suspect, a white male, has been killed, and that after thorough search of the shooting scene it was determined that the shooter acted alone.
The shooting has reportedly taken place at a video gaming competition. According to videos surfaced online, the shooting broke out as gamers were engaged in a football themed video game competition. It took multiple shots before the gamers became aware of the danger and more than a dozen shots were fired before the video was cut off.
A local media outlet cited sources as saying that 11 people were shot and four have been killed, but the police have yet to release any official figures.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement that U.S. President Donald Trump had been briefed of the incident and is monitoring the situation.
