42nd body found after Italy bridge collapse

Another body has been located in the rubble of the Genoa bridge collapse, bringing the death toll to 42, Firefighter Corps spokesman Luca Cari told RAI public broadcaster Saturday.

"The search is not over," Cari said. "We cannot rule out the presence of other people who were not reported as missing."

Hundreds of rescuers have been working around the clock since a section of a much-traveled highway viaduct in the northwestern port city gave way just before noon on Aug. 14, sending cars and trucks crashing into a railway, a riverbed, and some warehouses that lay 45 meters below.

Earlier on Saturday, ANSA news agency said the bodies of a couple and their nine-year-old daughter had been extracted overnight from their car, which was crushed by a block of cement. Firefighters said on Twitter that they had recovered "the destroyed carcass" of a vehicle.

The body found Saturday afternoon could be that of Mirko Vicini, an employee of the local sanitation company who was reportedly in one of the warehouses below the bridge when it collapsed and who has been reported as missing.
