In Pictures: Hikers help clean up the Great Wall for Earth Day 2018

Last Sunday April 22 marked Earth Day 2018, the largest environmental movement in the world. Over a billion people are now involved in Earth Day every year, after its launch way back on the April 22, 1970.

The goal of Earth Day is to make people more aware of environmental issues, spending the day doing conservation work with the planet in mind. Cities and communities across the globe created events and spaces for Earth Day, which this year focused on the campaign to End Plastic Pollution. In keeping with this theme, the Beijing Hikers Group set out to climb the Great Wall on Sunday and clean up any rubbish they could find on the way.

At the event, that runs every year, around 25 people spent their Sunday cleaning up after other hikers and making the Great Wall as beautiful as possible, without any plastic waste left behind. The Beijing Hikers Group have been running this Earth Day event since 2009, to help impact the environment and educate the younger generation on environmental issues and helping our planet.
