On October 10, a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said that the Chinese government and the government of the Republic of Chile reached an agreement on Chile’s establishment of a Consulate General in Chengdu, which covers Sichuan Province, Chongqing City, Guizhou Province, Yunnan Province and Shanxi Province.
Chile and China are both members of the APEC. Chile is one of the first Latin American countries to sign a free trade agreement with China. Chile's Consulate General in Sichuan will play a positive role in promoting investment, trade and people-to-people exchanges between Sichuan and Chile and Latin American countries.
Chile is the first Latin American country to set up a consulate general in Sichuan. Until now, 20 foreign consulates have been approved in Sichuan, which now ranks third in the mainland and first in the central and western regions.(By Edina Liang)
