On the morning of January 3, 2018,
Chairman Xi Jinping issued an order of training to all branches of the military
during the 2018 mobilization ceremony of the Central Military Commission.
Xi urged to
“carry forward the combat spirit of fearlessness to hardship and death”.
Shortly before the event,
Chairman Xi Jinping had been to the company of Wang Jie before his death
under a brigade of the 71 army in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, on December 13, 2017.
In front of the blood clothes and the debris of pen left after the sacrifice of Wang Jie,
Xi Jinping learned in detail how Wang Jie sacrifice himself in rescuing others.
Xi Jinping said with emotion,
“I had heard of the story of Wang Jie in my childhood
and he is a hero in my mind”.
Since the 18th CPC National Congress,
Chairman Xi Jinping has paid great attention to study and carry forward
the spirit of fearlessness to hardship and death.
Shortly after Xi Jinping assumed the chairmanship of the Central Military Commission,
he pointed out that soldiers must be courageous
and full of fighting spirit
which is essentially the spirit of fearlessness to hardship and death.
Chairman Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized in different occasions like major military conferences,
the scene of military drills,
inspection of grass-roots units
that the combat spirit of fearlessness to hardship and death
should never be lost.
The army needs the strength of the spirit
when the Party, country, and people are in need.
The simple phrase of “fearlessness to hardship and death”
is rich in historical and ideological connotation.
Fearlessness to hardship means that we should brave all difficulties,
no matter how hard it is,
and finally overcome them.
Fearlessness to death
refers to the heroic spirit to face all danger,
overwhelm all enemies,
and even sacrifice personal life at crucial moment.
The reason for the spirit of “fearlessness to hardship and death”
to keep its great vitality in the passing time
is that it was born in the war
as the essence of the revolutionary
and combat spirit of the Chinese military forces.
generations of people “learning from Wang Jie” have continuously passed down
and innovated it to enrich its connotation of the times
to be more prominent in modern value
and clearer in guiding practice.
The combat spirit of fearlessness to hardship and death
has been infused into the blood of Chinese military forces
to become its most vivid image and a powerful spiritual impetus to defeat all enemies.
Inspired by this spirit,
the people’s army will march from one victory to another
and secure a glorious future.
