National big data strategy
Hi! Welcome to “About China”!
In today’s program, we will talk about ”national big data strategy”.
Implementing the national big data strategy to better serve social and economic development and improve people's lives should be accelerated, President Xi Jinping said at a key meeting. Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark at a collective study session of the CPC Central Committee's Political Bureau.
Big data is a general term for data information, which is huge and complex, and difficult to capture, curate, manage and process with on-hand database management tools.
The characteristics of big data can be summed up as 4V: volume, velocity, variety and veracity.
A national big data strategy was first advanced in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) in 2015, when it was listed as a fundamental strategic resource for China's future development. China will fully implement the development of big data and accelerate the opening, sharing, development, and application of data resources, to help industrial transformation and upgrading and innovation in social governance.
