He is the Pritzker Chair of Asian Art and the chief curator of Chinese art, at the Art Institute of Chicago. He used to be Senior Vice President and Head of Chinese Art at Sotheby's in New York, and served as Director of the SOAS China Institute at SOAS, University of London.
