The event is sponsored and supported by the Culture Market Development Centre of the Department of Culture; National Art Museum of China; Fujian Provincial Department of Culture; Xiamen Municipal Department of Promotion; China Ethnic Foundation; Minority Foundation; Beijing International Art Exchange Centre; Toptech Training Centre at the School of Visual Art, Tsinghua University; World Federation of Fuzhou Associations Ltd.; Malaysian International Artists Alliance; Council of World Female Artists; World Culture; and Art Exchange Centre, Belgium; Hua Xia Academy of Painting and Calligraphy Art and Hong Kong Oil Painting Research Society. As a grand occasion in Fuzhou, Fujian and Xiamen art circle in 2009, the department leaders in Fujian government, overseas and local artists, art critics and press and media all attend the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

The theme“ Haixi Affection” implicates that the exhibition focuses on both emotion color and the culture of Haixi. Every form of arts and the ways being presented are often caused by emotional touch. In most cases their sentiments come from the connection with their hometown. Our selected artists who returned from overseas come from the same hometown, Fujian. Artists Lin Minggang, Wang Shouqing, Xu Enqi and Yu Shan were born in Fujian and studied art overseas. Such cross-cultural background has brought influence on their art creations. Their artworks are different in styles and highly individualistic as they have different individual dispositions and being immersed in different countries’ customs.

Lin Minggang, the French-based painter, is the pursuer and defender of the beauty of nature. He is one of the representatives of the third generation Chinese oil painters in France. Lin’s works express the natural, beautiful, but simple landscapes of France, with the essence of impressionism and classicism. Grew up in countryside area in Fujian, the England-based painter, Wang Shouqing’s appreciation of nature and sensitivity towards it have shaped his way of presenting art. His paintings are extremely rich in language and visuality. Based in America, Xu Enqi is specialized in Chinese traditional art. In his paintings, the traditional aspects of Chinese art are inherited and at the same time they are presented in an innovative way. Xu’s water ink works are painted in a temperate style yet in a vivid tone, manifesting the Eastern art spirit that man is an integral part of nature.

Despite the differences in individual painting styles, these overseas artists have a common voice, which is their gratitude toward their hometown. They pay constant attention to their hometown and wish to make contribution to it. It is undoubtedly one of the best ways to express their feelings by presenting their artworks to the people in their hometown in the exhibition.

In recent years, Fujian government has been largely promoting the development of cultural industry, which is believed to help to increase the power and competitiveness of the society. With the international vision, professional spirit, and profound understanding in Fujian culture, Art of Nature International is devoted to the development of Chinese-Western art exchange and provides artists and art collectors a platform for communication. We have been putting enormous effort on promoting overseas-based artists who are from Fujian. All the art pieces in the exhibition are of high standard and diversified in artistic themes and styles. In the exhibition, art lovers could understand artists’ ideas on their art production, at the same time artists’ sentiment towards their hometown and how it influences their works can also be realized.
