ROXY PAINE
Drawing for Containment, 2009
India ink on paper
29 3/4×22 inches
James Cohan Gallery is pleased to announce our participation in Art Basel Miami Beach 2009, opening on Wednesday, December 2nd and running December 3rd - 6th, 2009. We hope you will be able to visit us at Booth G10 in Hall A.
The centerpieces of our booth will be a new work by American artist Roxy Paine, well-known for his large-scale stainless steel Dendroid sculptures, and a new vertiginous painting by Fred Tomaselli, entitled Big Eye. In Paine's newest work, Containment 1, a system of organic-shaped, branching forms grows to fit the confines of a rigorously contained space measuring 12 x 8 x 8 feet. In addition to this special installation, we will present a selection of works by gallery artists, including Yinka Shonibare MBE's dynamic sculpture of a woman astride a fantastical flying machine; an intricate new drawing by Simon Evans; a new suite of watercolors by Yun-Fei Ji drawn from a variety of sources, including 18th century Chinese ghost stories, as well as Ji's new scroll produced in collaboration with MoMA, entitled Three Gorges Dam Migration. Other featured works by Bill Viola, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Nam June Paik and Karen Seapker.
