《Life in the Fast Lane》：一次違反交規引發的靈感
歌名的源由是有天Glenn Frey與朋友開車要去參加牌局，開車的這位朋友卻在路上以120公里的時速，玩起了逆向的飆車。Glenn Frey趕緊説“Hey Man，Slow Down”，不料這位朋友卻回答説“Hey Man，It’s Life in the Fast Lane”。於是，Glenn Frey很快將這段經歷和體驗，寫成了一首歌。歌曲通過這種追求極限的刺激，引申出追求快感卻一無所得的虛無主義情緒，對當時美國社會普遍的物質與精神生活的不平衡狀態，進行了反省和批判。雖然手法並不激烈，但寓意同樣回味無窮。
